Book Review: The Lion and the Little Red Bird by Elisa Kleven

Today this book touched my heart. The first time I read it years ago I just thought it was  “cute”. Today however, I read it to my Kindergarten class very slowly and deliberately. We made motions with our arms for:

the swishing tail

the lion’s paws dipped in the pond

and a gentle reach with the arms ( for the part when the Lion scoops the little red bird out of the tree after her nest is blown away. )

This is a tender and relevant book for young children. Read slowly with love. Read stories again and again. Children love to know what’s coming next!!!
